Schedule > Meeting #2 (April 11)

Thursday Meeting:

During this session, Debbie Scarff will give us a lesson on how to take interesting photographs. She'll have a slide show and will discuss her own work as a photographer. After her workshop, we'll have some time to got out and take some photographs on our own in the downtown area.

What to Bring: Please bring a camera (any kind will be fine). If you are unable to find one to use, please e-mail me and I'll help you. Debbie will be providing the film, so just bring a camera.

Exercise for this week:

Since I'm not familiar with where you live, I would appreciate it if you would send me (Tim) an e-mail in which you describe what your neighborhood is like. Please try to send it to me before Wednesday night so I can read it before we meet on Thursday.

As you write, don't worry about grammar or spelling--this is just an e-mail that tells me little more about where you live. It doesn't have to be long; try to write a paragraph or two, but feel free to write more if you feel inspired. I just want to hear you begin talking about places you know well, so even a few sentences would be fine if that's all you have time for this week.

If you want some questions to help you get started, I've included a few below. You don't have to answer all of them--just find what's useful to you.

What's your neighborhood like?
What is your house like? What is the street like outside your front door? The buildings next door? Are there mostly houses or stores on your street? How much traffic is there in the area? Are there parks or fields or parking lots nearby? Open spaces?

What are the people like?
Are there lots of people around, and if so, what kinds of people are they (age, culture, appearance?). Do you like your neighbors? Do you know them very well?

Do you like your neighborhood?
What do you think is positive or good about your neighborhood? What do you think is negative or bad about it? If you feel your neighborhood is boring, try to explain why?
