Helping Congregations
Become Active in Environmental Stewardship and Justice
Resources on Food Production, Nutrition and Justice
EP believes that understanding more about where their food comes
from and how it is produced quickly leads people to constructive
local ways of addressing important environmental and justice issues.
As quickly, it also introduces them to individuals and groups building
ways of raising and distributing food that foster human community
and have more moderate ecological footprints.
EP is facilitating participation in interesting and important local,
regional and national meetings to gain background and contacts.
- Eating as a Moral Act -- Religious leaders keynoted and presented
along with sociologists, environmentalists and anthropologists
at this 3 day conference held in April 2004 by University of New
Hampshire's Office of Sustainability. See
the Papers.
EP wants to host individuals interested in learning about these
topics at the UNH Office of Sustainability's fall conference held
November 7-9th, HEALTHY FARMS, HEALTHY PEOPLE: MAKING THE AGRICULTURE-NUTRITION
LINK, the 4th
annual Soul of Agriculture Conference in Durham New Hampshire.
- Community Food Security Coalition -- This national organization's
membership includes people who work in farmers' markets and community
supported agriculture, farmers and activists, officers in religious
organizations' hunger programs and local organizations that were
helping farmers practice "sustainable agriculture" 20 years before
anyone began using the words. Its annual meeting is in Milwaukee,
October 16-19.
CFSC's website also
serves as an outstanding guide to the organizations working on
food justice, food production and distribution -- from farm legislation
to genetically modified food.
